Samuel Kaski (https://people.aalto.fi/samuel.kaski) is an Academy Professor at Aalto University, and a leading wide-profile machine learning expert with special interest in flexible probabilistic models. He is the director of the Finnish Center for Artificial Intelligence FCAI, after being the director of Academy of Finland funded Centre of Excellence in Computational Inference Research (2015-2017). Kaski has supervised 23 PhD theses and of his alumni 15 have faculty positions. He is an action editor in two major machine learning journals (JMLR, IEEE TPAMI), Scientific Advisory Board member of three research institutes, and has been a Chairman or PC member in over 100 conferences, including AISTATS, AAAI, NIPS and ICML. His H-index is 56.
Markus Heinonen (users.aalto.fi/~heinom10) completed his PhD in bioinformatics at University of Helsinki in 2013. He is currently an Aalto University research fellow specialising in deep learning, dynamical models, Bayesian statistics and generative modelling. He has a long track-record of applying machine learning to applications in biology and chemistry. His publication record contains numerous machine learning contributions in NIPS, ICML, UAI and AISTATS.
